Set screws FLAT POINT are mainly used where parts have to be often re-set. as they cause little or no demages to the part they bear against. Used also against hardened shafts with gound flat for better contact and as adjusting screws.
The CUP POINT set screws are mainly used against hardened shafts. die castings and other soft materials where high tightening torques are not possible.
The OVAL POINT sets are used for frequent adjustments without deformation of the part they bear against. also for seating against an angular surface.
The CONE POINT set screws are used for permanent location of the parts. Deep penetration gives highest axial and torsional holding power.
HALF DOG POINT set screws used for permanent location of one part to another. The point is normally spotted in a hole drilled in a shaft or on a flat surface milled on the shaft.
