Esta norma internacional (DIN EN ISO 4026) especifica las características de los tornillos prisioneros con hexágono interior y punta plana, con roscas de M1.6 a M24, de clase de producto A. Los tornillos prisioneros de punta plana se utilizan principalmente donde las piezas deben reajustarse con frecuencia, ya que causan poco o ningún daño a la pieza que apoyan. También se utilizan en ejes templados con superficie plana rectificada para un mejor contacto y como tornillos de ajuste.
Los principales materiales utilizados para la producción de tornillos prisioneros son: AISI 420 (48-52 HRC), excelentes propiedades mecánicas y resistencia a la corrosión; 45 H (14.9), aplicaciones estándar y de alta resistencia; 33 H (12.9), 22 H (8.8), utilizado en aplicaciones donde se requiere tensión moderada y grandes diámetros; 21 H, acero inoxidable A2-A4, excelente resistencia a la corrosión y al calor. 14H (4.6) para aplicaciones donde se requiere tensión moderada, pasadores roscados.
